I recently saw a dating advice item about changing your Facebook status when you start to date someone new. The article said it is a big statement to the world to say that you are "in a relationship" on your Facebook profile. I think it's an even bigger statement to your new girl or guy when you take down your CyberDating profile.
If you think about it, changing your Facebook status to say that you are in a relationship is just a two second change. It may be a big deal to the guy or girl that you are dating, and to people who follow your status. The thing is that if your new relationship does not work out it would only take a second to change your status back. Easy come - easy go.
On the other hand, if you begin a new relationship, whether you meet your new mate online dating, on Facebook or using a more traditional method, it is much more work to remove your online profile. That's especially true if you have got a few budding relationship threads going online. If you have others that you have been communicating with in the online dating site, you'll have to send them Dear John messages. By cutting those threads, you are saying much more to your new dreamboat about your commitment to the new relationship than just updating your Facebook page.
Another thing that makes it a bigger deal is that once you have decided to close your online dating account, then your profile will be gone forever so if you become single again, you will have to go to the work of adding your profile again. You may even be abandoning an online dating membership that cost you a bunch of cash. You'd better be sure about your new relationship before you move too hastily.
